English Leads PLLC - Session 3

This PLLC session, hosted at Foxwood Academy, will focus on deepening our understanding of the adaptations and teaching approaches that support pupils with SEND, particularly in relation to English. Foxwood Academy, part of the White Hills Trust, supports pupils aged 3–19 and has developed a strong reputation for inclusive practice. Leaders and staff have kindly invited us to learn more about their approach, beginning with an overview of their curriculum and SEND provision, followed by a guided learning walk across the school.

The visit will provide an opportunity to see inclusive strategies in action and to engage in professional dialogue with colleagues who have extensive expertise in special educational needs. Following the learning walk, we will come together to reflect on key themes and consider what this practice means for our own schools and contexts.

Key questions will guide our discussions:

• How do leaders ensure that all children make strong progress?

• Which strategies and approaches demonstrate the greatest impact?

• What can mainstream schools learn from special school practice?

• What barriers do children face when learning to read and write, and how can we work collaboratively to overcome them?
