Excellence in Practice Visit - Redwell Primary School

Join colleagues at Redwell Primary School for an inspiring Excellence in Practice visit focused on developing times tables fluency and strengthening mathematical understanding across Key Stage 2. The school will showcase its evidence-informed approach to teaching multiplication and division facts, which has led to significant improvements in pupil outcomes through the implementation of the Number Sense Times Table Fluency Programme. This evidence-informed approach was researched and introduced by their current Maths Lead, Charlotte West.

During the visit, delegates will learn about Redwell's implementation journey, exploring how a clear and structured approach to times tables teaching has enabled pupils to develop both procedural fluency and a secure conceptual understanding of multiplication and division. The impact of this work has been substantial, with the proportion of Year 4 pupils achieving full marks in the Multiplication Tables Check increasing from 16% to 84% over a two-year period.

Visitors will have the opportunity to observe dedicated times tables fluency lessons alongside daily mathematics lessons, providing insight into how fluency is embedded within the wider mathematics curriculum through a mastery approach. The visit will also showcase how the Five Big Ideas of Teaching for Mastery support the development of deep mathematical understanding alongside automatic recall.

Throughout the day, delegates will be able to engage with school leaders and Year 3 and Year 4 teachers, who will share practical strategies, classroom approaches and lessons learned from implementation. There will be opportunities to ask questions, discuss common challenges and explore how similar approaches might be adapted within different school contexts.
