Excellence in Practice Visit - Djanogly Strelley Academy

At Djanogly Learning Trust, our vision is for every child and young person to succeed and flourish through an exceptional educational experience. Djanogly Strelley Academy has created a highly inclusive culture where all pupils, regardless of need or background, are known, valued and supported to succeed. Inclusion is at the heart of the school's vision and decision-making, particularly within a context of high disadvantage, increasing SEND need and significant levels of vulnerability.

Ofsted recognised that leaders are "committed to meeting the needs of every pupil across all vulnerable groups", with highly effective provision that reduces barriers to learning and enables pupils to excel. Inspectors highlighted Acorns and the Ready, Respectful, Safe provision as examples of tailored support that successfully builds the skills and knowledge pupils need to succeed. Parents are overwhelmingly positive about the support their children receive.

The visit will focus on the school's inclusive culture which ensures that disadvantaged pupils, pupils with SEND, EAL learners and those facing significant life challenges feel safe, belong and thrive. Leaders maintain high aspirations for all pupils and carefully monitor the impact of interventions and support strategies to ensure the most positive outcomes.

Visitors will see:

• Acorns Specialist Provision for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition, demonstrating personalised approaches to communication, independence and curriculum access whilst maintaining full inclusion within school life.

• The school's graduated approach to SEND, using robust identification and assessment systems including EduKey, B-Squared, WellComm and R2i to ensure needs are identified early and support is precisely matched.

• Examples of adaptive teaching and inclusive classroom practice, including Communication in Print, visual supports, reduced cognitive load approaches and high-quality first teaching that enables pupils with SEND to learn alongside their peers.

• Targeted provision such as Ready, Respectful, Safe, nurture, ELSA, speech and language support and Little Acorns interventions which help pupils overcome barriers to learning and develop independence.

• The school's multi-agency approach, where attendance, safeguarding, SEND and pastoral leaders work together through weekly Priority Pupils meetings to coordinate support for vulnerable children and families.

• Strong partnerships with families, external agencies and the local community that remove barriers associated with disadvantage, SEND, attendance and wellbeing.
