Designing Exceptional Curriculum and Pedagogy

The October Curriculum & Pedagogy Connect Day brings together senior curriculum, teaching and learning, and school improvement leaders from across our partner trusts to explore the opportunities and challenges shaping curriculum and pedagogy in our schools.

The day has been designed around one central question:

How do we design curriculum and teaching that enables every learner to achieve and thrive?

Delegates will hear from regional leaders and trust colleagues, exploring developments in education policy, curriculum design and evidence-informed practice.

We are delighted to welcome Paul Heery, RISE Adviser for the East Midlands, who will provide an update on the Regional Improvement for Standards and Excellence (RISE) programme, sharing regional priorities, developments across the region and opportunities for schools and trusts to engage with the growing system-led improvement offer.

The morning will also showcase examples of exceptional practice from across both primary and secondary education.

Douglas Mitchell, Principal of Ashcroft Technology Academy, will reflect on the leadership, culture and educational vision that underpinned the school's recent Ofsted Judgement which contained several areas of Exceptional practice. Rather than focusing on inspection itself, Douglas will explore what makes Ashcroft such an exceptional place for young people to learn and the long-term commitment to excellence that sits behind the outcome.

Liza Christofides, Headteacher at Cleves Primary School, will share the story behind Cleves' recent Ofsted inspection, reflecting on the leadership, curriculum and culture that have enabled the school to achieve Exceptional outcomes for its pupils.

Alex Curran, Director of Education (Primary) at The Mead Educational Trust, will explore the work of the National Key Stage 3 Alliance, considering the evidence behind the programme, the importance of high-quality transition and what we are learning nationally about strengthening curriculum coherence and Key Stage 3 provision.

The afternoon will move from input to dialogue through a series of facilitated Professional Peer Network meetings.

Working alongside colleagues with similar leadership responsibilities, delegates will reflect on the morning inputs, discuss current curriculum and pedagogical priorities, share effective practice and explore solutions to the challenges facing schools and trusts. These conversations will help identify collective priorities for the partnership and shape future Inspiring Leaders activity, ensuring our work continues to reflect the issues that matter most to curriculum and pedagogy leaders.
